"...And Bochra remained alone in the limbo between sea and earth… until the tourists arrived"

When the climate in the Mediterranean returns mild, boats full of migrants leave from the coasts of Africa and Asia trying to reach Europe, the “promised land”.

On a summer night, Bochra arrived on a beach in Sicily with over 130 people on board. All soon escaped. And Bochra remained alone in the limbo between sea and earth… until the tourists arrived.

Director's note

“I was in Sicily for some location scouting. They had told me about that beach, but I had never been there. They had told me that for years it had become a natural landing place for boats, dinghies, that escape the coast guards’ scrutiny and arrive, suddenly. It is a very long and beautiful beach.
It was sunset. People were leaving after a day spent in the sun. From afar I saw a large black shape against the light. It looked like the carcass of a beached whale. I walked for about a kilometer and got closer. When I arrived I felt the weight of its journey. I felt the pain of its abandonment, like a mother who has gathered her last strength to give birth and then leave and lose herself.
It is as if it had asked me to tell its story”.
